Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Tina Fey and Tituss Burgess took a rare turn on a live stage this week, performing a musical duet at the MCC Theater’s Miscast Gala on Monday. The duo captured their real-life dynamic in “You’re Nothing Without Me,” a duet between a writer and the fictional character he created, from the 1989 musical City of Angels.
Fans of 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt probably know that Fey and Burgess can both carry a tune — Burgess sings in almost every episode of Schmidt, and Liz Lemon has broken into song more than once — so it should come as no surprise that they pulled it off.
If it weren’t already obvious, after seeing this you have wonder why the networks aren’t tapping Fey to run their often-cringeworthy live musical specials.
