Kevin Bacon Cast in Jill Soloway’s New Show, ‘I Love Dick’

It was a while ago now that we reported Jill Soloway was making a series from Chris Kraus’ iconic book I Love Dick, and not nearly as long ago that we found out that all-around joy Kathryn Hahn had signed on to star in the pilot. Deadline news is now reporting that Kevin Bacon is in talks to sign on, too.

Kraus’ book is a semi-autobiographical novel that focuses on an academic couple, Chris (Hahn) and Sylvere, that develops an obsession with another distant academic, named Dick — who will, apparently, be played by Bacon. On a superficial level, the book is about the dissolution of that couple thanks to an obsession with the reluctant Dick, but threads of artistic maturation and independence run throughout. The pilot, and eventual series, will be told in what’s been called “Rashomon-style” shifts in points of view, though whether or not the book’s copious letters will make the cut in any direct way, who knows.

The screenplay for the pilot was written by playwright Sarah Gubbins, and this is her first work for screen. The pilot, should everything go through, will first be available as part of one of Amazon’s “pilot seasons,” where it can then be voted on by viewers. Because Soloway is so beloved for her work on Transparent, the chance of the show not making it to series is very slim, but accidents do happen.
