“I could slit my wrist and pour you a glass of Pinot Noir right now,” Tituss Burgess told Seth Meyers last night when asked whether the now-infamous song — “Peeno Noir” — from Season 1 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has changed his drinking habits. Indeed, in their conversation on Late Night (Burgess’ second appearance on Meyers’ show), the Schmidt star told the host that he’s received an ungodly number of Pinot Noir bottles from people since his character’s “ode to black penis” first became a viral sensation.
And so, along with promoting the second season of Schmidt, Burgess has also (as has previously been reported) become a Pinot Noir entrepreneur — smartly capitalizing on the affiliation of a fine wine with bawdy humor — and he and Seth Meyers did a mid-interview tasting of the wine he’s marketing.
For those who didn’t know, his wine is called Pinot by Tituss, it’s a 2014 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir with “aromas of dried fruits, slate, subtle rosemary, coriander and roses lead to flavors of plum and black cherry cola” and “tones of toasted oak and leather delicately dance on the palate,” according to the product’s website.
“This was the third one I’d tasted and I told them they could stop right there because I knew this was the one,” he says, before then beginning to talk about the actual series…sort of. He tells the story of how he asked his co-star, Carole Kane, to help promote the wine alongside him in a video endorsement — though her reaction to the wine isn’t exactly what he desired.
