This is a story that seems decades out of time: Sinead O’Connor, who famously worked with Prince on “Nothing Compares 2U,” is being threatened with a lawsuit by entertainer Arsenio Hall over claims O’Connor made earlier this week that alleged Hall had supplied Prince with the drugs that may have led to his death. Hall had not responded initially, but now he has — definitively.
Hall has filed a $5 million defamation suit against O’Connor, which may seem drastic, but, also, might be appropriate, because the allegations she’s very haphazardly brought against him are little more than hearsay and also very, very serious. In the suit, as reported by TMZ, he also says that he hasn’t seen O’Connor in 25 years.
For what it’s worth, Hall also claimed that O’Connor and Prince had a contentious, barely-there relationship, which is supported by an interview O’Connor did back in 2014, in which she said:
“He summoned me to his house after ‘Nothing Compares’. I made it without him. I’d never met him. He summoned me to his house – and it’s foolish to do this to an Irish woman – he said he didn’t like me saying bad words in interviews. So I told him to f*** off.”
O’Connor’s original Facebook message read:
Two words for the DEA investigating where prince got his drugs over the decades…. Arsenio Hall (AKA Prince’s and Eddie Murphy’s bitch) Anyone imagining prince was not a long time hard drug user is living in cloud cuckoo land. Arsenio I’ve reported you to the Carver County [sic] Sherrif’s office. Expect their call. They are aware you spiked me years ago at Eddie murphy’s house. You best get tidying your man cave.
