In The Space Between Us, a new film unlikely to be endorsed by Nev Schulman, two 16-year-olds fall adorably in love online, with some interplanetary twists. Tulsa (Britt Robertson) is just a blonde manic pixie dream girl, but Gardner (Asa Butterfield) is the first human born on Mars. He escapes his native planet to visit his Earth-bound girlfriend (“He’s a romantic,” says someone in the trailer), and discovers a whole new colorful world.

While Tulsa doesn’t believe his story at first, (Gardner’s birth is kept a secret, and only 14 other people who live on Mars knew he existed) she eventually comes around when it is revealed that Gardner’s heart cannot handle the Earth’s gravity and his life is at risk the longer he stays. On the other hand, if the Curiosity Rover can teach us anything, it’s that Mars seems super lonely—we’ve all gotta pick our battles.

The Space Between Us is directed by Peter Chelsom (Serendipity, The Hannah Montana Movie) and hits theaters August 19. BD Wong and Gary Oldman also star. Watch the trailer below:
