Grimes Speaks on Abrupt Barclays Walk-Off, Briefly, and Announces New Song

This week, Grimes played two sets at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The first was on Tuesday night, and seemed to go off without a hitch. The second was Wednesday night, and, a few songs into the set, it ended. This was just after singer-songwriter-producer Claire Boucher said, “We just had a really disturbing thing happen to us today, so sorry if my voice is shaking, it’s been kind of a fucked day. I apologize, I’m having a lot of trouble keeping it together today, right now.” For all of Wednesday night and most of Thursday, fans were left wondering what had happened to Boucher, but she’d stayed silent. Late last night, she broke that silence, but she still hasn’t said much.

Taking to Twitter, Grimes simply said that she would explain what happened once she could safely and legally do so. She later made an apt point, warning fans and critics to ignore speculation regarding her mental health and rumors that had been popping up all over the internet, specifically on Reddit. Rightfully, we won’t speculate here, but it’s been a pretty terrible week for the world, so here’s hoping everything is OK for Boucher.

And, on a happier note, she also announced that she’s got a song coming out on the Suicide Squad soundtrack, and it’s called “Medieval Warfare,” which is maybe as perfect as a Grimes-centric combination of things can be.

She also pointed out that, as of now, no future shows are canceled. Her next scheduled show is in the UK, on Friday, June 24. See the schedule here.
