New ‘Westworld’ Trailer: Sex, Guns, Horses, and Anthony Hopkins

If Game of Thrones was your go-to show and you’re not sure what to watch after next Sunday’s finale (titled “Winds of Winter,” oh man!), look no further than Westworld, HBO’s newest, very weird show, which is set to premiere this fall. We’ve seen a little bit of it before, but this newest eerie trailer is both gripping and terrifying in its portrayal of a futuristic, Wild West-type world that should provide your fix of sex, violence, suspense, and Anthony Hopkins.

The show is based off of the 1973 Michael Crichton film of the same name in which a futuristic adult-themed amusement park is populated by robots. In this reboot, the amusement park seems to be all virtual reality, but it’s still packed with saloon-styled robotic women who are at the sexual disposal of humans (we’re assuming and hoping this is a post-syphilis point in time — or maybe the VR avatars can’t contract it?). The trailer hints that the robots might be on the verge of gaining some self-awareness, and might even murder a few folks along the way. Also, it looks a little confusing. Still, such scandal!

The $54 million series will feature all the big names $54 million could buy, including Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, James Marsden, and the ageless Thandie Newton. If you weren’t sold on the show before, this phenomenal cast is even more reason to jump on the bandwagon. Among the producers are JJ Abrams and Jonathan Norton.

Westworld will debut this October.
