Just Try Not to Cry at Jessica Williams’s ‘Daily Show’ Sign Off

The Daily Show‘s Jessica Williams announced on Wednesday that last night’s would be her last show, and it was! And it featured a tearful sendoff from host Trevor Noah and the correspondents. While the show has seen many heartfelt goodbyes in the past years including Jason Jones, Samantha Bee, John Oliver, and Jon Stewart, Williams’ was no less bittersweet, ending in a group hug and montage of her best moments from the show.

“We tried to put together all of your greatest moments, but the truth is no one show can do them justice,” Noah said.

Correspondent Jordan Klepper added, “When I came in, I was so impressed by how young and talented you were, it almost made me angry. And now, as you leave, I’m honored to say that I’m still pissed.”

The world will not be bereft of her genius for long, however, as Williams has signed a deal with Comedy Central to write, produce, and star in a pilot about “a politically-minded young woman who may be ‘woke’ but doesn’t know what she’s doing.” Naomi Ekperigin, a writer for Broad City and Difficult People, will co-produce.

Before Williams left, however, she recorded one last amazing segment, on Bernie Bro turned Trump supporters. She rounds up six of them in a room and addresses them in awe.

“Y’all would rather have a 1oo percent turd than a maybe secret turd?” she pleaded with the group. “But what if that maybe dookie turns out to be okay, and maybe a little less progressive than Bernie Sanders?”

If you don’t start tearing up yourself when she signs off with “J. Willy out!” chances are you’re the secret turd.
