‘Ocean’s Eight’ Now Has Seven: Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mindy Kaling Join Cast

Across “Pour it Up” and “Bitch Better Have My Money,” Rihanna has created characters who both have and flaunt their money and characters who had and flaunted their money before it was loaned to some “bitch,” who, as it goes, “better have” it. From the “strip clubs and dollar bills” of “Pour it Up” to the monetary revenge fantasy of “BBHMM” Rihanna wouldn’t be at all out of place as pretty much any character (sly protagonist, vengeful antagonist) in, say, a Vegas heist action comedy. And she may very well soon be a star amongst a dizzyingly good in one such film: the upcoming all-women Ocean’s 11 spinoff — Ocean’s 8. (Yes, Hollywood is running out of ideas, but at least they’re running out of ideas in a slightly more socially forward fashion…!)

Deadline has announced that the pop star is close to locking a deal with Warner Brothers to join already-announced cast members Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. There also happen to be a few other exciting names in the midst of sealing their participation in the project: Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, and rapper/comedian Awkwafina. As Deadline notes, if all of the above artists do officially join, they’ll make seven in total, leaving (at least as the title suggests) one name left to be revealed.

The film is being directed by Hunger Games/Pleasantville‘s Gary Ross (who write it with Olivia Milch), and will be produced by Steven Soderbergh, who directed the original and its sequels, Ocean‘s 12 and Ocean’s 13.
