Intimate Photos of African-American Communities

Share:

Grammy-nominated artist Mathieu Bitton’s work tells stories that range from the life of a rockstar, to depictions of everyday life in African-American communities. The images in his photo exhibition Darker Than Blue, on view at the Leica Gallery in Los Angeles through October 17, were captured with Leica cameras — a way of working that evolved out of his friendship with Lenny Kravitz, who encouraged him to focus on his photography. Bitton has designed album cover art for some of the world’s most famous performers, including Prince, Miles Davis, and Marvin Gaye, but his photographs are intimate and emotional.
