Extremely Weird and Confusing Illustrations from a 1994 Scientology Handbook

Earlier this week on Dangerous Minds, we spotted a bizarre 1994 handbook from the Church of Scientology. “Today, the need for real solutions is crucial,” reads an Amazon introduction. “Abuses of every description are rampant in the world—drugs, crime, conflict, terrorism, illiteracy, immorality—the list seems endless. To have any decent future at all, you need to know this manual for living and use it.” In over 900 pages, boldly colored and totally confusing illustrations teach you “tools that enable you to handle a broad scope of situations that we all face in today’s world.” According to Dangerous Minds, “the actors and sets were photographed in the early ‘90s on full-sized sound stages belonging to Golden Era Productions in Riverside County, California. Next door to the sound stages lies a computer facility with an uninterruptable power supply so when the rapture happens you will still be able to get onto America Online and check your email.” Hail, Xenu . . . or something.
