Donald Glover, of Childish Gambino and Community fame, has been cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming standalone Han Solo Star Wars movie.
The film, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) is set to be released in 2018 and “focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.” Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker, Blue Jasmine) has already been cast as the young Han Solo – a role made iconic by grumpy Harrison Ford.
Billy Dee Williams first played Lando Calrissian (before his Colt 45 fame!), the reluctant Administrator of Cloud City who joins the Rebel Alliance against thug Jabba the Hutt to rescue Luke Skywalker. For now, you can see Glover in the FX series Atlanta, which was recently renewed for a second season.
