It only took one year, rather than 13 (à la Holy Motors), for confirmation that Adam Driver and Rooney Mara will (probably) appear as lovers in Leos Carax’s Annette, the director’s English-language musical (and first English-language film). Variety says that officially the group is still in talks, and that Rihanna is rumored to have a role in the movie — which is new information. The film will also feature original music by the Sparks. According to the trade outlet, “the movie depicts the rise and fall of an intense love story and will boast Carax’s singular visual style and atmosphere, bringing back the key crew that worked on the director’s previous movie, Holy Motors, which competed at Cannes.” We previously reported that “Driver [is expected to play] a standup comedian and Mara an opera singer. Caroline Champetier, the cinematographer behind the project (who also shot Holy Motors), said that Carax would like to work with many of the Holy Motors actors again.” Shooting is expected to start in the spring.
