There was another awards ceremony this weekend, just before the Golden Globes fuss began, and many of the same films and TV shows were awarded by both. The Critics Choice Awards gave out lots and lots of prizes for many categories. In Film, La La Land, Moonlight, Jackie and Manchester by the Sea dominated in the major categories.

Best Picture: La La Land Best Actor: Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea Best Actress: Natalie Portman, Jackie Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali, Moonlight Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis, Fences Best Acting Ensemble: Moonlight Best Director: Damien Chazelle, La La Land

In television, HBO came out on top in both comedy and drama.

Best Comedy Series: Silicon Valley Best Drama Series: Game of Thrones

Acting awards went to Kate McKinnon for SNL, Thandie Newton and Evan Rachel Wood for Westworld, Donald Glover for Atlanta and Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul.

Perhaps the most notable moment in the broadcast occurred after Silicon Valley’s win, when Atlanta’s Lakeith Stanfield mellowly went up to the podium and thanked everyone for their hard work on the show. The chill version of a Kanye moment was met with a confused, if relatively sanguine, reaction.
