If the new rumors are true about an upcoming iPhone update, Apple will release a brand new “theater mode.” This rumored iOS feature will have a “popcorn-shaped Control Center icon” and automatically dim the phone screen and set the device to silent mode when the user enters a movie theater. This will supposedly limit distractions to other audience members while the phone is being used in the theater. But the concept has movie lovers in an uproar — especially Alamo Drafthouse Cinema CEO Tim League, who has a strict no phones policy in his Austin theater location. Talking and other disruptive behavior at the movies has been an issue since . . . at least 1912, as these vintage movie etiquette posters prove.
