Bobby Cannavale Joins ‘Mr. Robot,’ Which Returns in October

Variety reports that Sam Esmail’s hacker drama Mr. Robot will return for season three this October. Vinyl and Boardwalk Empire star Bobby Cannavale will join the cast as Irving, “a laconic, no-nonsense used car salesman” — who will hopefully terrorize everyone around him while snorting copious amounts of drugs, mid-erotic asphyxiation. Fan-favorite star BD Wong has been promoted to a series regular. Wong, of course, plays the transgender hacker Whiterose — who also happens to be the Chinese Minister of State Security. Whiterose is a ringleader in the Dark Army hacker group. “Season 3 of ‘Mr. Robot’ will engage viewers in a whole new way, with Sam and team continuing to find ways to surprise, challenge and delight the audience. And adding Bobby Cannavale and BD Wong to our cast makes one of the tightest acting ensembles even stronger,” Jeff Wachtel, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s chief content officer, told press. October can’t come soon enough.
