Samantha Bee Goes in on “Trailblazer” Ivanka Trump

“As we come down from the dizzying high of Women’s History Month,” Bee begins, “let’s appreciate a woman who’s blazing trails right now.” That’s right: Last night’s episode of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee took aim at the shiniest member of the Trump clan, Donald’s beloved wife daughter, Ivanka.

Joking that Trump “already gave the Hand of the King job to her husband, Jared, right after he took President’s Landing,” Bee examines Ivanka’s vague yet undeniably powerful role in the White House. She even wore pink for the occasion.

Bee proceeds to tackle Ivanka’s perceived role as a “calming influence” on the president, a voice of reason on issues ranging from climate change to (lol) women’s equality. Why, she met with noted climate-change activists Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio! The latter meeting, Bee says, is not a sign that Ivanka truly cares about climate change; rather, “It’s a sign that you were a teenager in the ’90s.”

And let’s not forget the leading role Ivanka played in developing a Trump Tower in Baku, Azerbaijan that a recent New Yorker investigation revealed to be essentially a money-laundering front for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. But, you know, whatever, #WomenWhoWork!

Although Ivanka and Jared are said to have been behind Trump’s decision to scrap a proposed rollback of LGBTQ protections back in February, really, “Trump may have just wandered out and forgotten to sign the EO, because, you know, it happens” — a reference to the head-scratching episode last week in which Trump left a press conference before signing two new trade-related executive orders, which was the whole point of the event.

“At most,” Bee says, “Ivanka has stopped one out of 24 appalling executive orders. That’s only one more than Tiffany has stopped!” And yet people still talk about Ivanka as the Great White Hope (pun intended) of this disastrous administration. “I get it,” Bee says. “People are comforted by the thought of a progressive feminist in the White House. To which I say: If you wanted that, you should have voted for it.”
