Björk has released “The Gate,” the first single from her forthcoming (and as-yet-untitled) new album.
The emotionally heavy nearly-seven-minute track is “essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way,” the Icelandic singer/songwriter explains. It has a more uplifting sound than that of her previous album, 2015’s Vulnicura, which followed her break-up (after more than 13 years) with Matthew Barney; she has called the new LP her “Tinder album,” and says it is “about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.”
Give it a listen:
The new album, which Björk co-produced with Arca, is due in November – though “The Gate” wasn’t supposed to hit until next week, so who knows. Its video, directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, will debut at London’s Store Studios this weekend. (Admission is free.)
