Watch Bikini Kill Play Together for the First Time Since 1997

Bikini Kill’s Tobi Vail, Kathi Wilcox, and Kathleen Hanna appeared onstage together for the first time in 20 years over the weekend. The occasion was the conclusion of a three-night event at New York’s The Kitchen, celebrating the release of Pitchfork editor Jenn Pelly’s new 33 1/3 book about the Raincoats’ debut album. Vail, Wilcox, and Hanna reunited to perform “For Tammy Rae,” which you can watch a frustratingly short excerpt of below, damn you Instagram and your video length limits:

The band broke up in 1997, and this was the first time this many of its members have appeared together since. But Hanna is apparently in a nostalgic frame of mind these days; she also put Le Tigre back together last year to record the pro-Clinton single “I’m With Her.”

And the Bikini Hill reunion wasn’t the only big homecoming at The Kitchen last weekend; Palmolive, the Raincoats’ original drummer, performed with the band for the first time since 1979.

Pelley’s book is out now.
