Watch the First Trailer for Andrew Haigh’s ‘Lean on Pete’

Andrew Haigh’s Lean on Pete was one of the nicest surprises of last fall’s Toronto International Film Festival – not because it was great (Haigh’s films, which include Weekend and 45 Years, always are), but because it saw the decidedly urban-oriented filmmaker going rural, with equally moving results. Back at TIFF, yours truly called it “a good old-fashioned boy-and-his-horse story, with Charley and Pete taking off unexpectedly on a road trip of cash-strapped desperation,” told in a series of vignettes, “each with the inner life and rich characters of a McMurtry short story, each with their own pleasures and curveballs.”

It’s very good, is the point, so we’re happy to hear it’s hitting theaters in March – and that A24 has released the picture’s first trailer. Check it out:

Charlie Plummer stars as Charley, the “boy” part of the “boy and his horse” equation; the robust supporting cast includes Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny, and Steve Zahn. Lean on Pete is out March 30.
