Book Excerpt: Amazing Images from the New ‘Isle of Dogs’ Companion

It’s not a surprise that Matt Zoller Seitz’s The Wes Anderson Collection was among the most successful of the recent burst of film-related, design-heavy coffee-table books, because it’s such an ideal merging of subject and format — Anderson’s work is so meticulous, and his films are so detail-oriented, they tend to lend themselves to the minutiae-gazing of such volumes. The trouble with the Anderson Collection was that it captured a career in progress, so as Anderson has continued making films, supplementary volumes have been necessary: the stand-alone Grand Budapest Hotel book back in 2015, and now a companion to last spring’s Isle of Dogs, penned by Lauren Wilford and Ryan Stevenson. It’s in stores now, and we were lucky enough to get a peek at some of the storyboards, still comparisons, and behind-the-scenes shots within.
