John Lennon appears digitally (courtesy of Yoko Ono) in a new ad for One Laptop per Child to encourage donations for the nonprofit organization and according to our friends at Ad Age, the video has been polarizing for Beatles fans and online media alike. “Comments at the YouTube page where the ad has been posted by the foundation range from ‘It’s a good message, but this is too far’ to ‘This is an abomination.’ Writers on the popular website Boing Boing said, ‘Resurrecting the dead to shill modern products is not going to catch on,’ adding, ‘Digitally, it’s creepy.’”

I think Eddie Murphy doing 'Clarence & the Clarences' on SNL was a much more evocative appropriation of Lennon's spirit. And by looks of the video this was Harry Nilsson/qualudes/smack-era Lennon. I wouldn't take consumer advice from anyone in such an era, let alone for a product that has to be bought in pallets of 1 million units.
Ha.
