As Refinery29 brought to our attention yesterday, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir is wild. So wild that he has his own 8-part documentary series on the Sundance Channel — Be Good Johnny Weir. (Gawker recently called it “the most fierce, fabulous, insane, glittering thing ever.”) His over-the-top outfits are the one reason we plan on watching the Winter Olympics.
And so after the jump, we’ve staged a who-wore-it-best showdown between our new sartorial obsession, and our old standby (and his muse, as a commenter pointed out) — Lady Gaga. Whose closet would you rather raid?

Gaga is Johnny’s muse. He sat with her mom at one of her Radio City Music Hall shows. He has more of a standard body for modeling clothing. Gaga’s 5’1″ and curvy, albeit athletic. She’s been the fashion trendsetter of the year. They’re both wonderful.
That first Weir costume is straight Ziggy Stardust — like, almost exactly something Bowie wore in the early ’70s. Awesome.
Bowie is Gaga as Gaga is to Weir.
and clearly Lady G takes it. as soon as Johnny rocks a lavender wig on the ice, then we can talk.
Lady Gaga has to wear all that crap to distract from her fugly face.

It’s all smoke with no fire. The ridiculous fashions and disposable fashions – which seem dated and shamefully reminiscent of ages of clueless consumer excess – are just to draw attention from the lack of any memorable melodies or intelligent lyrics.
@Express, no memorable melodies? Did you somehow block out all of 2009 and all of Gaga’s hits? They are pretty memorable. Both Weir and Gaga are fabulous — he’s definitely the only reason to pay attention to the Winter Olympics.
Both are very flamboyant and dont seem to give a damn what anyone thinks. BUT if we were to choose the better looking one, it would have to be Johnny. He’s a pretty boy. Gaga has the figure but Johnny has the face! Aside from all that ‘fluff’ Gaga can sing, Johnny can skate!
