Former music video director Samuel Bayer‘s re-make of the 1984 Wes Craven classic A Nightmare on Elm Street has been hotly contested. At first we couldn’t imagine a version sans wise-cracking Robert Englund, but after viewing this newly-debuted trailer, we’re sold. Although it begins with the requisite barely-lit scenes juxtaposed with ridiculously attractive high school kids, things become increasingly creepy as the trailer progresses. We actually jumped a few times.
Check out Jackie Earle Haley‘s reincarnation of Freddy Kruger — who seems to be a fan of lurking in the shadows — along with the original movie’s trailer (for comparison’s sake), after the jump.
A Nightmare on Elm Street hit theaters April 30, 2010. What do you think of this new Freddy?

Looks like an above-average scare-a-thon – which is more than I would have expected. Cautiously optimistic! And viva Jackie Earle Haley.
Nightmare bothered me the first time…older and wiser now, the trailer led me to believe the second round might be worse! ack! Razor blade fingers and child molesters are too much for me when combined.
