Prince Emerges from Purple Kingdom with New Song

He recently fumbled with the Minnesota Viking’s “Purple and Gold” fight song, but this morning Prince rolled out of his symbol-shaped bed, put on a purple robe, probably made some pancakes, and debuted a brand new song on Minnesota local radio station 89.3, The Current. “Cause and Effect” sounds like Prince utilizing pop sensibilities while indulging his rightfully-earned status as modern guitar hero. There are tinges of downbeat funk and gospel coos bridging with his no-regrets lyrics: “If I had a chance to do it all again/I wouldn’t change a thing except my next of kin.”

We also discovered some grainy, vintage footage of Prince and the Revolution rehearsing for the Purple Rain tour, just recently posted to YouTube. Prince — oblivious to the fact they’re in a dirty basement — sashays around the room, urges on his band members, and screams gloriously. After the jump, hear the new “Cause and Effect” and peep some of the best footage, and let us know what you think. With these recent rumblings, can a new Prince tour or project be far off?
