Pic of the Day: Staple Art

Perhaps it’s because of the bad economy. Maybe it’s overstocked supply closets. But for some reason, artists have been turning to office supplies as a medium of late — with stunning results. We’ve seen Eric Daigh’s incredibly realistic push-pin portraits, Mark Khaisman’s large-scale paintings made from packing tape, and now these beautiful murals from Baptiste Debombourg, which he made using 35,000 staples. This is AMAZING! I love office supplies.

Is that really cheaper than oils? LOL

are those regular staples or thicker ones?

Where are these currently shown?

Hang on. All they have done here is project an image onto the wall and add the staples accordingly. Big deal.

not faiir….it takes some skillto give the effect

come on. It’s more process over content, which unfortunately is the malaise of the art world these days. Let’s leave the gimmicks to the graphic designers and corporates. I’d like something more from art than a clever idea.

i’m going to agree with ag, that it’s more about the process than the content with the content begging for editorial due to it’s reliance on gimmick.
but i’m finding that to be true with most of the arts right now (relying on gimmicks for attention.) and since art dictates society and then forms our history, what does that say about our future?
pathetic is a word that comes to mind.
