In some of the most spectacular examples of adaptive reuse, medical marijuana dispensaries have cropped up across the Pacific Southwest, staking out vacant commercial space for pop-up pot shops delivering high-grade cannabis to California patients. But not for long; an ordinance passed yesterday will shut down more than 400 stores over the next six months.
Over the course of one week, photojournalist and California Institute of the Arts alum Michael Underwood laboriously documented over 250 local dispensaries. If you live in LA, you can check out a video projection of his work nightly through the end of June at 5502 Monte Vista Street.
