Pic of the Day: Matchstick Art

Share:

David Mach, a 53-year-old artist from Scotland, has a love of matchsticks that he channels into unique sculptures of animals and iconoclasts. After creating a plastic or fiberglass mold, David inserts tens of thousands of matchsticks one at a time, causing his art to have a distinct, “beady” look. When on sale, the sculptures sell for anywhere from $30,000 to $52,000, but sometimes he and his wife will simply set the sculptures on fire at exhibits. Click through to see a few of our favorite matchstick sculptures before they go up in flames.
