Mixtape: ’90s Nickelodeon Themes

9

There’s something about TV theme songs: Although they aim to be timeless, in retrospect they’re always a relic of their era. Perhaps that’s why they make us so nostalgic. So, when we stumbled upon this great playlist of songs from Seinfeld, featuring the show’s own quirky, bouncy, bubbly intro, it got us thinking about all the other ’90s TV themes we haven’t heard since, well, the ’90s. Over the next few days, we’ll be posting mixtapes of themes from some of that period’s most memorable programming blocks. Today, we’re kicking it off with a compilation of great ’90s Nickelodeon music, which you can listen to after the jump. Oh, and if you’re curious about what ever happened to the casts of these shows, check out our recent update on what they’re doing now.

Its a slow news day. Time for flavorwire to roll out the obligatory round of sugar-coated purposeless nostalgia.

is it just me or is the pete and pete theme song actually really catchy and good in all 90s pop ways?

It is not just you! It’s a really good song.

Purposeless nostalgia?!?

It certainly made my day

THIS IS THE GREATEST THING OF ALL TIME!!! ALL TIME, I SAY!

I agree with all the positive comments there too! Thank you flavorpill—-one thing though, I don’t have cable anymore, does Nick suck now? or are the shows still the same but I am remembering these shows from a kid’s perspective?
ALSO I feel this way about MTV shows.

Most of the music from “Pete & Pete” is amazing… the soundtrack CD, by Polaris, is fantastic. The show still holds up incredibly well, too: I have the two DVD sets and I’ve got friends (in there mid-twenties) who never watched the show growing up completely hooked on ‘em.

Wait a minute, isn’t Daria an MTV show?

Ren and Stimpy disgusted me.
