‘Friday Night Lights’ Movie Is On: Connie Britton Talks Details

Friday Night Lights fans, will we truly be as lucky as the Arrested Development cult? Is all this talk of a movie actually going to yield a big-screen continuation of the Taylor family’s story? According to creator Peter Berg and star Connie Britton, who a Details reporter serendipitously caught in the same place at the same time, the answer is “yes.” Berg had no qualms confirming, “We’re doing the movie,” while Britton talked about a recent meeting with FNL showrunner Jason Katims. “[W]e were talking about something else and I said, ‘Forget about all that. Is this movie going to happen?’ I was sitting on his couch, and he’s like, ‘Look behind you.’ And I look behind me and it’s a wall with a big, huge corkboard on it with all these 3×5 cards. That’s what these writers do, they do the whole story on 3×5 cards. He’s like, ‘That’s the movie.'”

Of course, all those index cards still need to become a screenplay — this, despite Berg’s claim back in February that Katims was “about done with the script.” But it seems the idea of basing the story line on the true tale of Mike Leach, a famous coach who lost his job after being falsely accused of locking a player in a closet, is still on, so we imagine Coach Taylor has some major-league adversity awaiting him. At the time, Berg had also said that the feature would be contingent on signing Britton and her TV husband, Kyle Chandler, and it looks like that’s on it’s way to happening. While her interview makes it clear that she’s on board, Berg says he’s either got or will get Chandler, too. Of course, in true Tami Taylor style, Britton is the voice of practicality: “You need to have a conversation with him.” Click here to read the interview for more details on the FNL movie.
