Pic of the Day: Banksy vs. Global Warming

12

Egad! Four new Banksy paintings have been spotted on the Regents Canal in London’s Camden Town. This time, rather taking down Ikea, the famed undercover street artist is tackling the issue of climate change with spray paint and his signature sarcasm. View more images of these new pieces after the jump.

It is not about believing about global warming. It is about what causes it and being an artist (Banksy) is not excuse to being ignorant.

Global Warming is a fact; it is a Global Warning. However, the exact causes of global warming remain elusive. I read the “I don’t believe in global warming” piece to be a comment about the denial-ism and apathy plaguing the world regarding the existence of global warming.

My relative just got his *ss kicked, and his spray paint stolen… those are the risks associated with his art form. I think remaining unnoticed is rather a healthy decision for graffiti artists.

Don’t hunt Banksy.. you’ll get him killed.

I like studio photography, specifically, my wife NeCkEd:) It’s life affirming, and as far as the risk factor, the only one likely to kill me is Her:)

Banksy is wrong on global warming. A shame. Up until this I thought he was a great artist. It may be that someone finally managed to pay him off. It seems no prominent artist is below being diverted/manipulated by mainstream media (prominence = mainstream media attention). So here we are. Britain 2010. Gordon Brown with his fake war on terror, and Cameron/Clegg with their climate deniers. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Consider the context of the statement “I don’t believe in global warming” in the piece. The water level appears to be rising. Now, think about global warming in terms of glaciers melting and higher sea levels… Take another look at the work.

Lesson One in appreciating Banksy: Don’t take his work literally.

How can some of you not realize that the piece is sarcastic? He is quite obviously mocking people who don’t believe global warming is happening

Heard about this site from my friend. He pointed me here and told me I’d find what I need. He was right! I got all the questions I had, answered. Didn’t even take long to find it. Love the fact that you made it so easy for people like me. More power These machines today take in a lot less water (environmentally friiendly and all). http://www.google24.com

The intent is clearly to make it look like the building is sinking in the rising water…uh, hello. Think people!

Hello irony. Have we met?

Wow, I’m surprised how a lot of people here don’t get the sarcasm in Banksy’s “I don’t believe in global warming.” I am in awe, both in banksy’s wit and these commenters’ blank eyes.
