We occasionally feel that despite the fact that tattoos are clearly more socially acceptable and respected now than they’ve ever been, tattoo artists often don’t get the respect they deserve as artists. Quite apart from the fact that it takes a steady hand and nerves of carbonite high-tensile steel to inscribe your art into someone’s skin, the most accomplished tattoo artists have a dedication to their craft and a degree of skill to rival the masters in any other art form. With all this in mind, we thought we’d share the work of German tattoo artist Peter Aurisch, which we spotted via Lost at E Minor. Aurisch runs a Berlin studio called Nevada Johnny, and his work is distinctive and beautiful, a world away from popular conceptions of buxom sailor wenches and/or leering skulls.
