Noomi Rapace in Talks to Star in Amy Winehouse Biopic

Because the only proper response to a wrenching documentary about the ravages of fame and addiction is to put together a wrenching biopic about the ravages of fame and addiction.

Screen Daily reports that Prometheus’ Noomi Rapace is in talks to star as the singer in a film tentatively, not to mention inventively, titled Amy Winehouse. Kirsten Sheridan, the Irish director of 2007’s August Rush, has already written the script, but the all-important music rights are still under negotiation.

As The Hollywood Reporter points out, those rights are still controlled by Winehouse’s father Mitch, who decidedly did not come off well in Asif Kapadia’s documentary Amy, released earlier this year. One imagines he might want to ensure he comes off better in the fictionalized version of his daughter’s story, but of course it’s too early to tell—Rapace isn’t even confirmed yet.

Still, keep an eye out for more Amy Winehouse news in the coming months; it’s hard to imagine a story this ripe for adaptation will wait in the wings for too long.
